Achieve Financial Freedom
- How big is your "why"? -

Why do you want to achieve financial freedom? We were asked this very question when my wife and I attended a Rich Dad Poor Dad investing course one summer.

Our teacher instructed us to jot down our reasons we choose to be rich. It took some introspection. We never though of why we wanted financial freedom before.

Here are some of the things we wrote down:

Why financial freedom?
If your why is big enough, the how will take care of itself. Share your big WHY here!

  • Time (family time)
  • Travel
  • Do something we love - won't be considered as "work"
  • Give back with teaching
  • Create a legacy

I remember being a little shocked after my wife and I read this list aloud to the other attendants the next day. When we looked at the list again, we didn't see the word "money" in it.

Here we are, at a seminar on building wealth, and our reasons didn't include money. It was just interesting to see what really drives us. At the end of the day, it's not money that provides a happy life, it's what you do with that money that matters.

Now, our list is printed out and taped to the mirror in our bathroom. We get a constant reminder of the purpose of our actions.

I remember telling my wife another big reason: "I never want to tell our kids 'You're the reason why we didn't do it.' I want to tell them 'You're the reason why we DID do it'."

In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey, habit two states: Begin with the end in mind. Doing this, you become more deliberate in your everyday actions. Your focus becomes more clear because you now envision your desired results.

This is the law of attraction. As you become determined in what you want, achieve financial freedom, you will think about it constantly. Send out vibrations to the Universe that this is your goal. Things are always created twice: First in your mind, then in reality.

Now, it's time to look inside and ask yourself: Why do I want financial freedom? ...to be rich? ...to be wealthy? ...travel the world?

How big is your "why"? If it is big enough, the "how" will take care of itself. Your motivation and desire will help you discover your financial freedom plan.
