Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
-Robert Frost-
"A better path to financial freedom?" My wife and I asked ourselves this same question. According to what we learn from school, our parents, and other professionals, financial freedom can only be attained by:
We discovered that these conventional steps to financial prosperity are not effective. Unfortunately, millions and millions of people are following these strategies.
But if these strategies really worked, then why are the same people experiencing these realities:
Layoffs and unemployment after devoting an entire lifetime to a company
Losing their home after accelerating payments to the lending institution
Massive losses in their 401k investments and other safe and secure government retirement plans
Less enjoyment of money
Are you experiencing this? Have you begun to question everything you've learned thus far? If you have, you'll find answers to those questions, and much more, here.
What the Rich Do
If you take away just one lesson from this website, I hope it's this:
The rich don't do things slightly different from the poor and middle class, they do the complete opposite.
In order to do things differently, you must think differently or else you'll be sucked back into your old ways.
We choose to be different. In our mid 20s, we decided to go against the grain. We want to be financially free early and enjoy an abundant lifestyle at the same time. It wasn't easy, but we knew it was time to...
Change.
So what changes have we made? A lot.
We have changed our mindset. We focus on our productive thoughts, rather than the destructive ones. This can be difficult, especially when situations don't go according to plan. The way you think is the way you live.
We view things around us as potential resources.Credit cards, home equity, team members...these are all resources that can boost you to wealth. Ignore them and you leave their potential idle.
Insurance is now used as a tool for production. We have learned the life insurance basics and turned whole life insurance into a wealth building asset. It is a key player in our financial game plan.
More time is spent on education. We read more. We study more. We produce more. It all starts in your mind. As Napoleon Hill's book title reads: Think and Grow Rich.
Our path is different. But this is our choice. And, we are in a much better mindset and place. We are on our way to creating and sustaining wealth.
